[AlertDC] Update #1: Flood Warning (Monday, July 14, 2025)
[AlertDC] The National Weather Service has extended the Flood Warning for the District of Columbia until 12 AM on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. WHAT: Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. WHERE: District of Columbia. WHEN: Until 12 AM on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. IMPACTS: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. ADDITIONAL DETAILS: At 9:52 PM, gauge reports indicated flooding was ongoing on at Rock Creek. Between 2.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen earlier this evening. Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected. Some locations that will experience flooding include Adams Morgan and National Zoo. Please visit www.weather.gov/safety/flood for flood safety and preparedness information. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. [AlertDC] The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for the District of Columbia until 10 PM. WHAT: Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring. WHERE: District of Columbia. WHEN: Until 10:00 PM on Monday, July 14, 2025. IMPACTS: Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas. ADDITIONAL DETAILS: At 8:29 PM, Emergency management reported flooding in the warned area. Between 2.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. [AlertDC] The National Weather Service has extended the Flash Flood Warning for northwest portions of the District of Columbia until 10 PM. At 7:58 PM, Emergency management reported flash flooding across the warned area. Between 2.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD: Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. IMPACT: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. |
