The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has extended the Severe Thunderstorm Warning for The District of Columbia until 8:30 PM this evening. At 7:25 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Milford Mill to 7 miles east of Massaponax, moving east at 40 mph. HAZARD... 60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE... Radar indicated. IMPACT... Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches to fall. This could injure those outdoors, as well as damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by downed trees. Localized power outages are possible. Unsecured light objects may become projectiles. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for the District of Columbia, which is in effect until 1:15 AM, Monday. WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. WHEN...Until 1:15 AM EDT. IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. ADDITIONAL DETAILS... At 7:16 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
